Semester break (27 September 2016)

Hopefully the mid-semester break has started well for all of you!

I have added some new material to the Resource Book and the latest version is now available on Moodle.

One of the links that I have added is to a documentary about the JonBenet Ramsey murder in 1996. This is a tragic story which received a lot of media coverage at the time due to some very interesting elements in the story and allegations of a cover-up.

The documentary is about four hours long so you will probably need quite a few coffees to get you through it! You might like to watch it over a couple of evenings so that you can reflect on some of the issues raised.

This documentary is quite a good example of using evidential techniques to solve a very complex case, which involves legal, social and procedural issues. You will see critical thinking, sequential thinking, analysis and evaluation techniques in use by the investigating team.

Originally, I had planned to run a class session on the use of evidence in problem solving so I recommend that you have a look at this documentary to familiarise yourself with some of the relevant issues here.

On other matters, I will be sending out some information about Assignment 4 later today. Later this week, I will send out the roster for your presentation of Assignment 2 to the class (in October) and also your results for Assignment 2.

Don't forget to keep going with your independent study over the semester break and remember that your weekly updates are still due each Friday.
